Max Mosley has hit back on accusations that the FIA is biased against Lewis Hamilton or McLaren following the recent penalty that cost Lewis Hamilton the win at Spa last weekend.Max has a special term for all of you Lewis and McLaren fans that feel the FIA is biased:
YOU’RE STUPID!!
So now we can all rest assured that all of you petition signers and detractors are just stupid and the rest of us are clear thinking individuals. How does that make you feel as a fan of F1 and a person who feels the recent FIA penalties have favored Ferrari over McLaren and hindered Lewis’s chance for a title this year?
“Any suggestion there is a bias for or against any team or driver is completely untrue, absolutely not,” Mosley told Reuters today at Monza.
“I think it’s a reflection, and I’m sorry to say this, of the stupidity of the people who say it because they haven’t really thought the thing through and put themselves in the position of the people who have to take these very difficult decisions.”
“I think he is a brilliant driver and it would be really excellent for Formula One and the world championship, if he won it,” the FIA president said. “But that doesn’t mean we are going to help him or hinder him. We are going to be utterly neutral.
“But that said, it would be brilliant if he won because he is a supreme talent and when it’s difficult, that’s when we see it. He has done a great job, and whilst we can admire, we mustn’t assist or hinder.”
“My immediate reaction was this is going to waste a great deal of everybody’s time,” Mosley said. “Which is true, it’s what always happens. A tiny incident and it takes up hours of your time.”

And when I say stupid, I mean you JYS!
Sure! Anyone that doesn’t agree with me (Herr Mosley) must be stupid… I never make mistakes! And KERS is both a cost saver and a green initiative. Now, assume ze position!
It’s alright though, guys… He’s sorry to say it. So it’s OK.
Please Max, please, stay forever: What would we do without you? We lack the basic intelligence to get along alone.
You mean certifiable half-wit type of stupid Grace?
This man has got to be out of his mind. Who wants him to stay????
The negative publicity that F1 has had over the last year is enough, if Mosley cared he would bow out and give it to someone to pick up the pieces. But as we all know he might not be president next year, but somehow he will stay involved. Mr. Mosley, the fans of F1 are really not the stupid ones, we did not get caught in a sex sting that embarrassed and hurt the reputation of the company and sport we work for, we also do not turn a deaf ear to some of the comments you say either, see we are not loyal to the FIA we are loyal fans of the sport F1 and the drivers.
Why everyone under the F1 spotlight think they’re entitled to use offensive words? Is it because they are not capable to communicate properly. Is it because they think the rest of the F1 world are stupid, half-wit, testicle-deficient, ridiculus? Or maybe, maybe, they haven’t got enough formal education to think and consequently express what they think without judgement. It is a disgrace the top flight have to deal with uneducated people pretending to be the boss, the shooting star, the dude who owns it all. Even Mr. Ecclestone has failed in being consistent with his opinions about people who’s living part of the F1. The bottom line here is: they better grown up, learn to behave or leave the show to someone else more genuine.
I have been a loyal fan for more than a decade, but during that time, I have endured fit after fit of disbelief at the FIA’s continued efforts to bite the hand that feeds it. I am sure that they would say they are trying to act on the best behalf of the sport of F1; however, after the debacles of the last few years, when faced with difficult judgment calls such as these, they should pay the greatest consideration to what enhances the image F1. This decision continues to tarnish that image and has soured this fan’s taste for F1, ironically in one of the most exciting seasons in recent history.
Do you all feel that at some level this has to concern Mr. Ecclestone? I know most everyone feels they are in league with each other but trust me, they are not when it comes to a possibility of the governing body damaging the commercial fortitude of the sport which Bernie owns. (along with CVC).
Whether justified through litigation or not, I find it odd that Max has refused to approach anything in F1 (post scandal) with anything less than hat-in-hand. Not because he should due to guilt or implication but because no matter the truth, he has dragged F1 through the mud. He must have a strong hand with several aces to say the things he does, damage the CVC’s investment and now start politicking and impying that he is not going to retire(if you missed it, he said that today as well. Apparently the same throng of supporters during the scandal are not salivating for his retention beyond October).
Alright, here’s another angle -
*The more controversy that exists in F1 increases the number of people who talk about F1.
*The more people talk about F1, the more people will likely watch F1.
*The more people watch F1, the more people will likely buy something from their sponsors.
*The more money sponsors make because of F1, the more F1 can charge sponsors for advertizing.
Everyone knows that racing (F1 in particular) is all about money. True, Max might have gone the pot-calling-the-kettle-black route, intentionally or not, but it IS controversial, and we ARE talking about it.
Very few people will stop watching F1 because Max called Macca fans stupid and the vast majority of McLaren fans will most likely strengthen their support because of it. This will probably increase viewership, considering the WDC battle and, more importantly, the buzz around F1 with Spa and Max in the spotlight.
Bernie has to be laughing his butt off right now. Possibly, all the way to the bank.
Oh good Max Mosley is defending the ehtics of the FIA.
Thank god they found an expert…… couldn’t they have just sent out a secretary carrying a puupy or something to read a statement off a cue card.
Next week Berine will announce he is going to play professional basketball
I did not know Niki Lauda, Pat Symonds, and Charlie Whiting were McLaren fans. Very interesting… wonder how Alonso feels about his technical director being a Macca fanboy?
I believe as a lot of people do that Max Mosley is well paided by Ferrari. Ferrari is so crooked/sly/cheaters or what ever you want to call them that they will stop at nothing to make sure they are on top with driver and constructor points. Why did Kimi not get penalties in the same race for passing under yellow and also cuttings corners??? Strange???? I guess the stewards were busy eating Italian at those moments. Ferrari and Max are wrecking the sport of F1.
I think the problem goes beyond FIA supporting Ferrari. The last two Schumi WC were pretty boring. Things became interesting again when Renault, later Macca became competitive. If the FIA is only interested in support Ferrari, they would be shooting on its foot ’cause in the end, most of the money (to my knowledge) they get comes from F1 -straight from our pockets!-.
So I think this is a struggle for power, power by itself, not just to get the power to improve the sport and make selfsustainable, interesting, self-driven. I imagine those guys -Mosley, Ecclestone- getting richer and moving things towards their convenience, revenge or flexing muscles to see how far can they bend the beam. The good thing FIA has done was to legislate to improve safety in cars, pits and circuits, I think they haven’t spent a dime on it -besides salaries and printed/internet products- but have forced circuit owners and teams to squeeze their wallets.
In any corporative business, it is important for the top managers to raise the next generation of managers and keep the business fresh and moving forward; I don’t see this happening in F1. . . . Scandal brings spectators and for sure it’s something for the sponsors to have up to some point. But everything have its limits, and like in pro-cycling, sponsorship may leave when scandals are above the sport image they want to back. It’s time for a change not only about the people running the sport but about the direction teams wants the sport to move to. It’s been almost 20 years of changes and modifications, freezing and more changes. If we want to keep F1 as a sport, most of the rules should be kept unaltered, changes must happen over a period of years, not from season to season, from race to race. . .
I can understand the feeling Todd, but I think Max says you’re “stupid” for feeling that way. I, on the other hand, can understand why you would feel that way and would say that there are some arguments for Ferrari leniency but I have also seen rules go the other way against Ferrari.
McLaren wasn’t competitive until 2007 and I think i know why they became, suddenly, competitive with Ferrari and it has to do with 800 page rules book on how to build a car. After seeing those documents, you don’t forget the knowledge gained even if you shred the evidence. however, Max does not think I am stupid for feeling that way. Just for feeling the other way around. :)
Welcome to F1B.
Somewhere in the great beyond, Jean-Marie Balestre and Ayrton Senna are asking themselves, “I wonder what all this fuss is about?”
Here’s a quick two-part quiz. Just identify the person:
1. A book showed photographs of him dressed as a Nazi. The man in the photo went on to sue the publication. As FIA president, he proclaimed himself, “the most important man in motorsport.”
Answer: A) Max Mosely or B) Jean-Marie Balestre
2. This McLaren driver had a win taken away after cutting a chicane earlier in the race. The decision influenced the outcome of the World Championship. After he accused the FIA president of being biased, he was forced to publicly apologize before he was allowed to compete in the following season.
Answer: A) Ayrton Senna or B) Lewis Hamilton
B and A respectively. :)
Correct! Although not a perfect repeat of history, it is interesting how closely similar issues have come back after a generation.
