Did I hear you correctly? Did you say overtaking?
Singapore Grand Prix organizers are in talks with F1 teams and the FIA about making revisions to first sequence of corners of their track in hopes of increase overtaking. They will also make modifications to Turn 10 that caused several accidents during last years race, including Kimi “Are we there yet” Raikkonen.
Event Chairman Colin Syn:
We are modifying turns one, two and three because we want drivers to have more opportunities to overtake this year. There are also plans to work on improving the track surface, which drew criticism from drivers as the most bumpy on the Formula One calendar and required teams to make drastic setup changes. We want to reduce the bumps and smoothen out the circuit. So that will be an improvement next year to make the race even better than it was in 2008.

Try lopping off a mile from the track, plowing down all the buildings and adding something other than lights to make the track interesting.
Yeah, you guessed it. I’m not a fan.
I shall translate
“We’re really sorry the first night race in F1 was a complete knuckle dragging f@#king bore. We’ll try to make it better and maybe even make a couple of bucks on it too”
hopefully they fix those HUGE curbs that put people in the wall for just thinking about navigating them…and that area where all the cars kept bottoming out….oh and get rid of that stupid subway that Webber blaims for short circuiting his tranny….and…well you get the point…the list can go on forever!!!
i quite enjoyed the race
I actually did too. I was not overly joyed with Valencia but I thought Singapore had some action, novelty and potential. Just saying…
My question is: On a cost-effective basis, is re-working tracks to encourage overtaking better [i.e. cheaper] than all this aero, KERS, etc. changes Max and others are hitting us with today?
Not that I expect a lot of tracks to follow suit, but this does *sound* promising, right?
I think the current venues may have a problem with that Skid. They are the ones who go begging to the government to offset their losses since they cant make money on hosting a GP.
Easy enough solution. Bernie could just give them more money.
Oh, right…
LOL. That awkward moment of self realization…:)
