I like the idea of a driver's pool Top Gear, I love it! I am pretty sure there would be lots of surprises, including underperformance of top drivers driving backmarkers!

Is everyone in the blog aware of the term "senility"? definition: showing the marked deterioration often accompanying old age, esp. mental impairment characterized by confusion, memory loss, etc.

Excluding a 60hr orgy, I think this is the main problem in F1

If only we could get decent coverage of WRC here in the states. Rally Ireland is coming up at the end of the month.... Looks like I'm going to have to head over to WFP's house and mooch off of his computer feed. :)

Sorry, all, it's the end of a long day, and I apologize for the caffeine fueled, sarcasm rich screes.

This isn't the end of the show. We don't know what the season will deliver. I'm not a fan of the management. I'm a fan of the cars, drivers, sounds and tracks. I'm a fan of the beautiful moments of car control and the supreme effort to take and hold a line or position.

When the golden era arrived (and the golden era is probably different for each of us), we didn't know that it had come or what twists and turns would come. There may be lurking in the messy new rules of 09 wonderful drives...a new Monza 71, another display of courage like Lauda after the Ring in 76, or Fangio at the Ring decades before, or Nigel in his epic GBR GP wins. Maybe Alonso at Renault, Massa and Kimi at Ferrari, Lewis at McLaren, Kubica and Vettel will all begin in top form and take us through a magical season. Perhaps Webber will take the season by the throat, or even Heidfeld, leaving the others to chase. Maybe we'll have another 08, decided at the final corner, won by a single point, or dare I say it? Another 07 meltdown with an astonishing new champion surging to the top rung.

The rules have changed but the speed remains, and the sounds, and the glory. I just wish I didn't need to wait so long for the season to begin.

Come on, Melbourne. Meanwhile, I'll make due with the 24 Hours of Daytona, speedweek, and the Daytona 500.

Cheers

It's as I've said before: I think I came to F1 a few years (decades) too late.
