Massa: New series may be best choice

Twice now I’ve agreed with Massa, I think the world is ending

Ferrari driver Felipe Massa believes that now maybe the best time to get out of Dodge since the FOTA teams seem to agree on how to run the series. While Massa is right and this is quite unusual, I’m just a little concerned that once the one uniting enemy is gone, everyone will go back to normal and disagree about everything. But rightly so Massa and the other drivers are concerned about their futures and whether or not they’ll be in the pinnacle of auto racing come 2010.

Massa:

The situation looks bad at the moment, but if agreement can be reached then it can have a healthy future. If not, then we need to look seriously at what is the best option: as the teams appear to be united, then maybe it is time to look at doing something different that could be better for the sport.

Whatever happens on the race track this weekend, the current political situation in the sport is bound to be making the headlines again. When I am driving the car, I never think about it and simply concentrate on my job of driving as quickly as possible, but outside the cockpit, I think about these problems, as they do affect me, as the relate to my future and the future of Formula 1.

We are all very concerned about the situation and I follow the developments closely, as it affects my professional life, even if I can have no real influence over how the situation evolves: that’s down to the people who govern the sport and those in charge of the teams. We need our sport to be in better shape, because over the past few months there have been some very stupid fights. Everyone needs to work hard to make the sport what it should be for the fans, the teams, the sponsors and the drivers. We don’t need this fighting.

If there is a split would the Tracks/Venues believe that they should pay for a now watered down F1 tour with No Big Manufacturers? I guess they would lose all of the signage dollars from the MFGs and their partners, luxury boxes/condos and seats they buy from these Manufacturers as well. So not only do they not make money with Bernie they have to lose even more money in tough times.

Also, how would the TV Partners feel paying the Premium Dollar for the now watered down F1, you know Bernie will MAKE them honor their contracts but they will not get any Advertising from the Big MFG’s and their partners either.

All I know is that CART/Champ Car lived and died by their Manufacturers, when the big Manufactures left them their series tanked. But Indy always had Honda which I believed saved them and saves them now. It will be interesting to see how NAPCar does without the support of their Major Mfg’s.

Shame the sporting world got rid of the Tobacco money because it sure would be helpful right now for them.

You would think CVC was run by the Gambinos the way Bernie and Max are willing to completely ignore the fan base and utterly destroy decades of F1 tradition to ensure they can pay the juice on Bernie’s loans.

As I said previously, this is all about saving Bernie’s arse and has nothing to do with saving the sport of F1. They are willing to turn the sport into anything they need it to be as long as it comes with some assurances that Bernie will get paid.

The ‘rebels’ must set up their own series, even if it takes a couple of years. We can wait. Meanwhile Maxeroo and Berneroo can run their go carts in Istanbul and Monaco in front of a few hundred spectators. These people are so corrupt it really makes you ill.

Didn’t one of the Monaco bigwigs say (during the F1 weekend) that they’d go with the breakaway series? I’m paraphrasing but I’m sure it was something like that.
