BMW: They said they were going to!

MArioBMW boss Mario Theissen said that production was going to be ramped up and new parts were find their way to the Eifel Mountians next week. That’s exactly what is happening according to Autosport’s ever-professional Jonathan Noble.

“Going into the German Grand Prix, we cannot be happy with the season so far,” he said on Friday. “After three successful years, this recent period has been the first set-back for our team – and is one we will overcome.

“After all, this is the same team in Munich and Hinwil that has delivered continuous improvements since the team was founded.

“We are all absolutely determined to start moving forwards again and I expect us to experience an upturn in form. It is certainly not easy to make up lost ground without the chance to do any testing, but that is what we’re aiming to do.

“We are bringing a series of mechanical improvements to the Eifel mountains, as well as a further developed version of our double-decker diffuser.”

I do like Dr. Theissen’s optimism on the situation and he is fully aware that they have always had an advancing career in F1 until 2009. This year has seen the team struggle to find mid-pack speed at best and with last years advances, this stumps many fans as they expected 2009 to be the year BMW shoots for the top.

Here is hoping that the team can find pace and some positive results for all their hard work.

I assume the Nurburing is in the Eifel Mountains, because at this point it wouldn’t surprise me if BMW went to the wrong track next week. Sheesh.

I guess all this BMW’s problems just give credit to Robert Kubica’s pleas last year.

As good as teams are, they can never predict the future in F1. To be competitive is extremely difficult. If you get into a position that allows you to go for the Championships, you have to go for it. To give up on it, in hopes of a better future is just stupid.

BMW have realy made a mess of things. Unlike Ferrari and McLaren, they do not have the excuse that ‘we were fighting to the end of 2008 and did not have time to develop the 2009 car’. They gave up on a winning car in 2008 and to focus on a KERS 2009 car (. They openly admit they have spent a fortune on KERS and now they have scrapped it. Now Mario, what are you at!. Assuming they have now cleared their head and focused on delivering performance on the track, they have the resources to deliver. They have no chance of catching Red Bull and Brawn, but given the small gaps in lap times they could easily be the best of the rest in the German GP. They must deliver at home…No excuses.

They are the worst team this year, except toro rosso who lost Vettel and also was obliged to play as junior team, (thats why Berger went away).
Maybe these poor result will cost Mario’s head. He needs desperately some big improvement, but now is really difficult.
I see a possible changement in BMW for next year , Berger could be a serious option..

Why teams still dream about having windtunnels, CFD, and all that exotic hardware and computational facilities if at the end of winter they have just created a crappy car? There’s a fundamental flaw on the concepts or experimental procedures that open the doors to huge pitfalls in designing and improving a racecar. If you didn’t nailed….you’re screw. It’s clear that a bad car at the begining of the season will continue to struggle the whole year. You may say Renault made it last year but I can consider that a fluke more than a counter-example. If the FIA REALLY want to cut costs they should have get back to the basics; limited wind tunnel test and unlimited car testing during the designing and testing stages; let the drivers and engineers to shape up the car on the track, not on an artificial tunnel or with a limited finite-element software code….it’s about racing not about getting a PhD while working at Woking
