Schumacher praises Button, but really applauds Vettel

F1 icon Michael Schumacher has released a statement congratulating Jenson Button, Ross Brawn and Brawn GP — but it seems like it really is a reason to pump up the future of fellow German Sebastian Vettel.
Not that I blame Schumacher, as Vettel is the future of F1 in Germany. He does lay it on a bit thick, and really says very little complimentary about Button:
“Well, the fight for the world championship titles is over already one race prior to the finale. As a fan of F1 I would have wished for a decision at the last race obviously, but on the other side I know from my own experience that being involved you have a different view on that. Congratulations to Jenson and Ross and the whole team – what they managed to achieve this year has my full respect. I grant them the titles because if you only look at what they have been through you realize what an incredible story this is: just one year ago they did think everything is over. I am extremely happy for Ross who I know since such a long time now, he deserves this success.
What a pity obviously for Sebastian, but he still has a lot of time. He had a fantastic season and showed that he has everything to become world champion. He must not forget that with all the disappointment now. Of course he will see that differently at the moment and will need some days to digest this weekend. But I am sure we will see and hear a lot of good stuff from him in the future.”
Hold on. On second thought, I do have an axe to grind with Schumacher. Did anyone else not win the driver’s championship yesterday, maybe someone who helped Schumacher to a bunch of championships?
Nothing for Rubens? Really, Michael? Nothing?
[One last complaint, which I will chalk up to translation issues. But "I grant" them the titles? I'll hope Mark H. comes in to tell us what the original said, but that comes across a bit self-important.]

No, Steve, it’s just as arrogant in German as in English. “Ich gönne ihnen die Titel” – grant is a good (perhaps even complimentary) choice of verb. It’s the word beaten soccer managers use in a bid to sound magnanimous. Shoemaker at his cock-sure best (worst).
What a jerk. That couldn’t have been unintentional. Those lines went through some dozens of PR guys. WTF Schumacher, sod off!
Hey, Wuubans talked some crazy smack this year about Schumi. I don’t blame him for not even talking about him on his own personal website. This just shows he’s still pissed at him for talking out the dirty laundry a few months back.
Again, I don’t blame him.
please… first of all schui did congratulate button- end of story, what else do you want, kisses, huggs, tears. you’ve got to be kidding. quit acting like a bunch of nascar fans!
