I’m not sure what he’ll be doing but its about Lotus so I am all too happy to report it. Lotus has appointed Claudio Berro as its new Director of Motorsport for their 2010 F1 team. Berro has held the same post for Ferrari, Maserati, Fiat and Abarth before running the Speedcar Race Series.
Lotus have already managed to impress the FIA with solid backing from the Malaysians, a wind tunnel model, and oh they hired that guy… what’s his name? Oh right, Mike Gascoyne. Here’s keeping our collective fingers crossed.
Berro:
Lotus has a peerless motorsport heritage, not just in Formula 1, but we have also won in sportscar racing, saloon car racing, world rally championships, Le Mans and the Indy 500. There is no other car company in the world which can lay claim to so many accolades and championships in such a wide variety of motorsport fields, and I am looking forward to re-introducing Lotus to high level motorsport to not only compete and win but also to demonstrate the shared technology between Lotus sportscars and future racing cars.
I am delighted that Claudio is joining us as Director of Motorsport. He has a proven track record of not only setting up and managing the motorsport’s divisions within sportscar brands but also winning championships in GT racing and rallying. His skills will be very valuable as we look to return Lotus to high level motorsport around the world.

Guess these guys have done more to prove they’ll be on the grid next season than Peter Windsor has.
Come to think of it: Is Windsor just not bothering anymore with this “building” a team anymore? I think at this point he might just like to sell his entry to Sauber than to actually go through the process and stress of having to start up and run a team.
