Schumacher/Vettel Dream Team Win RoC, again

Three in a row for Germany now. But for the second year running it was the old Master bailing out his young Padawan in the Race of Champions Nations’ Cup, despite his bad neck.

Michael Schumacher won both of his runs in the final, beating Jenson Button and Andy Priaulx in those magical RoC dirt buggy thingies, otherwise known as RX150s. Sebastian Vettel, meanwhile, span his Ford Focus WRC car against Priaulx in the second heat. Schumacher downplayed his own involvement in the win in the post race interview – at least, he tried to show willing:

We are a good team and we helped each other out in the earlier stages.

Vettel, meanwhile, was still in F1 PR mode:

It’s great to win the Nations Cup for the third time in a row. It’s all about team work in this event and I’d like to say thanks to the fans.

To be fair to Sebastian – the German team won 10 of its 12 heats throughout the event, so the Red Bull youngster did pull his weight, and Germany dominated.

If you missed the action and would like to see it, just click here (sorry for the Japanese commentary).

Germany had reached the final at the expense of US pairing Travis Pastrana and Chad Reed, whilst “AUTOSPORT Team GB” beat the host nation China – represented by A1GP’s Ho-Pin Tung and rally ace Han Han – in the semis.

Germany, boasting a pretty mouth-watering driver line-up, is now the most successful country in RoC’s (brief) history.
