Bruno and ScarJo together in Spain

Now I realize why Bruno Senna sounded so excited in his tweets about the new Campos car.

As part of his first “official” week with the Campos Meta F1 team, Senna will “take part in a social event in Madrid along with Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson.”

That might get me excited about testing an F1 car’s power steering.

I admit this post could have been wrapped into the earlier one on Senna’s announcement about the Campos car, but I saw it only after posting. As I noted in the other post, Campos’ website is not active, but when I landed at Bruno’s official site, there was the news.

In the Senna release (impossible to copy thanks to their web design), Senna is referred to as the team’s “first driver” who was presented during “an official launch event” today at the Campos headquarters in Murcia, Spain.

The Johansson news is worthwhile because it illustrates right out the gate what Senna’s value is to the Campos team. Do you think Nico Hulkenberg will be meeting with ScarJo?

Not likely.

As we all know, Senna’s value to the team — and by extension, to Formula 1 — has a pretty high ceiling at this point. I’m not sure how long it will last if he doesn’t perform adequately, although being with a new team should help tamp down expectations, a bit.

Still, this is a guy carrying the Senna name. It is hard to imagine how podium finishes and even better are not the bar for him, fair or not.

At this point, though, Senna is already scoring points for the team in the marketing department. I’m actually shocked we haven’t heard more about this ScarJo event; maybe Campos needs to ramp up its PR team pronto.
