Update: FIA ‘condems’ leak of Briatore info

We now know what it takes to get Jean Todt to speak: a little leaked court information.

Todt 588The FIA today, following the Guardian’s getting a hold of some of Flavio Briatore’s court claims, released a short statement denying Flavio’s apparent claims and denouncing the leak:

The FIA condemns the selective leaking of extracts from Mr Briatore’s pleadings to the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris.

The FIA rejects the allegations made in these leaks and confirms that the decision to impose a sanction against Mr Briatore was made by an overwhelming majority of the attending World Motor Sport Council members.

In respect for the authority of the French Court, it would be entirely inappropriate for the FIA to comment further on this matter in advance of the hearing.

As a reminder — if you don’t want to link on over to our previous Flav piece — the main contentions we’ve heard thus far include:

  • that there had been “some extremely violent disputes” between Briatore, representing the Formula One Teams Association, and Mosley. “Mr Briatore had, in the constructors’ names, in fact threatened the FIA and the FOM (Formula One Management) group … to instigate a parallel competition, organised without the FIA and without the FOM as rights manager.”
  • that Max Mosley was “clearly blinded by an excessive desire for personal revenge”
  • that there was “excessive and abusive power clearly exercised by both the World Council, in particular, and the FIA, in general” and “the breach by the World Council of the most basic rules of procedure and the rights to a fair trial.”

And there’s still about two weeks to go before the case hits the courts. This could be interesting.

Flavio is a man of action, he will certainly use all his power links to tie mad max in bondage (and whip him, maybe).I personally never liked Flavio’s attitude and outlook but he certainly was punished to a great extent. I don`t have enough information on why Michael quit Benetton in his time but it certainly goes against Mr.Briatore

I agree. Some of the rumours surrounding Flav don’t paint him in the best light. He really seems to make his drivers feel like second class citizens. Even Alonso doesn’t look to want to be at Renault, I believe he only went back there because he had no choice after the McLaren debacle.

My personal opinion is Flavs poor treatment of his drivers was a factor in Mark Webber choosing Williams over Renault.

Like someone said in another post, if anyone was to go up against Max it should be Flav. I would also put Ron Dennis in the same group but he lost too much cred when he was caught in the middle of *thinks*… Mental blank… Something-gate.

What concerns me about Todt’s first “major” statement is he is basically taking over from where Max left off (should I be suprised)?

“…confirms that the decision to impose a sanction against Mr Briatore was made by an overwhelming majority of the attending World Motor Sport Council members”.

That statement could have come straight from the “Pen of Max”.
