This game really should have a Michael Schumacher you can “unlock” if it wants to sell.
Anyway, given all the “virtual” news going on — Button to McLaren, no Button back with Brawn, I mean Mercedes; Kimi to who knows where; Nico to Mercedes; Heidfeld to Mercedes — I thought we could add some “real” virtual news.
This week, the official F1 2009 video game goes on sale. You can check out more here:
The official game of the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship, F1 2009 features all of the drivers, teams and circuits from the thrilling 2009 season. This will be the first time that drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have appeared in a Formula One game and F1 2009 will also be the first game to include 2009 constructors’ champions Brawn GP, as well as the Singapore night race and the stunning new Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Gamers can fully participate in Grand Prix weekends, including all of the practice sessions, qualifying and the race, compete in the full 17 round Championship mode, or take on a three-season Career mode and progress between teams in a battle for the ultimate prize to become the FIA Formula One Drivers’ World Champion. Gamers can also jump into Quick Races, set fastest laps in Time Trials or test their skills across a variety of mini-games including overtaking a set number of cars, gate challenges and flying laps in Challenge mode.
I believe Todd has already called “dibs” on being Vettel. Can I call Kimi?

Wii and PSP only? Really? I was kinda excited until I saw they’re only releasing this on kids toys. Oh well. I guess it’s back to Gran Turismo and Redline for me.
Codemaster wants to release a PC F1 game next year, I can’t recall the exact date, but I know they are working on it.
I will be getting the Wii version, but I wish it came out on PC.
Did I hear whipers of a PS3 release later, too?
Games will be out for the 2010 season for PS3, X360 and PC. These will use different graphics and processing engines and likely feature a much more “simulation” focused game. They say they couldn’t get the HD graphics and sim-style physics done in time for a 2009 game so they focused on the Wii and PSP (which will be way more “arcadey” with simple graphics) this year and will be ready next year for a “real” F1 attempt on the real systems. Frustrating, but better than releasing a poorly made and unplayable game just to get it out on time. We’ve waited this long for a proper next-gen F1 game, whats another year?
as cheevers said, only psp and wii this year, full version out next year. Probably more arcadey than simmy coming from codemasteres, waiting to see how many f1 cars will be in gran turismo 5 (and they’ve gotta be from before 09 so they won’t be the ugly ones!) for some realer racing.
Not to mention GT5 has been in the works since the last time Schumacher won a race!
My computer would be too slow anyway…
Title says it all, Game, Not Simulation. Prob best they avoid the PC crowd.
Anybody here tried iRacing and/or rFactor?
iRacing is an online racing game by subscription. apparently massive online community. No F1 cars though.
rFactor is sick as a simulator. I think they have F1 cars, not entirely sure. But their tracks are absolutely sick. I think it’s about 30 dollars for PC.
I’m getting this off Codemasters to review for a gaming site I do stuff for, being an F1 nut seemed appropriate. On paper it looks like a decent return to the video game genre. A true sim wouldn’t do well on the Wii and the PS3/360 versions next year will cater more to this market.
I haven’t played the game but as a seasoned F1 gamer I was put off almost instantly by the trailers etc I saw. I’ve written a review giving my thoughts… Although it’s more of a rant about the game as I didn’t actually play it after watching the trailers!
Anyway here is a link to the ‘review’ for what it’s worth:
