Kubica confirms more rally races

Kubica 588As expected, Robert Kubica will be taking on another round of rallying, jumping behind the wheel of a Clio Sport R3 Maxi at the Rallye du Var in France later this month.

So says the official F1 site.

Kubica, you might recall, crashed out this past weekend and admitted he needed to “learn to listen.”

I guess he’s passed his Listening 101 class with flying colors.

Kubica, who will race for Renault’s Formula One team next year, said he will be using the event, the final round of the French championship and the Clio R3 West European Trophy, to build on his experience after he crashed out of the Sicilian competition, despite setting some impressive stage times.

“I’m interested in all categories of motorsport and I particularly like rally,” said the Pole. “It’s a very demanding and spectacular category and I have been thinking about participating in a rally for quite a while so joining the Renault F1 Team has created the perfect opportunity to try this out.

“I will approach the event cautiously, without any particular objective. The roads in the south of France are as nice as they are challenging and I will try to enjoy it as much as I can behind the wheel of the Clio Renault Sport R3 Maxi of Team Chazel.”

Jean-François Caubet, Renault’s F1 Managing Director, commented: “As the team continues with its preparations for the start of the 2010 Formula One season, we look forward to seeing Robert taking part in the rally behind the wheel of the Clio Renault Sport R3. Rally is a category which promotes interaction between drivers and spectators and I’m sure Robert will have many fans supporting him on the stages.”

As noted in the previous post on Kubica’s rally weekend, Sebastien Loeb (with wife as co-pilot) will be in competition at the Rallye du Var.

No word on Kimi Raikkonen.

Again, good news for rally. So many racing series are struggling at the moment. With all the new series that were created to try and give the fans what they wanted (A1GP for example) failing, it is good to see the main four (F1, Rally, IRL and Nascar) getting the support from famous and popular drivers. Hopefully that should boost their ratings.

    I hope Kubes does well.
