F1B Opinion 588Before the 2009 Formula 1 season is too far in the rear view mirror, here is your chance to rate the drivers, teams and cars of the season that was.

As always, the questions are quick and straight-forward. But your answers don’t have to be.

1. Who was the best driver in 2009? The worst?
1a. Discounting Luca Badoer, who was the worst? :)

2. Which was the best car? The worst?

3. Which was the best team? The worst?

4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer: Stupidest moment. Stupidest moment that didn’t involve Bernie. Favorite news. Most memorable moment.

  1. Raymond says:

    1. Best driver I think was arguably either Hamilton or Vettel. Without his engine failures or inconsistency (he was crashing/spinning a lot at first) I believe Vettel would’ve been champ. And with such a dog of a McLaren Hamilton wen from 18h to a 3rd or 4th place in Australia. The worst was Luc… oh wait he’s not counted. I’d have to say either Kazoo or Grosjean.

    2. The best car I believe was the RB5. Even before the dual diffuser was installed, it was already competitive against the BGP.

    3. Best team I think would be either McLaren for being such a comeback king (Quali in Australia was last on the grid, while in Abu Dhabi they were on pole with a HUGE margin) or perhaps undoubtedly the fairytale Brawn

    4. Piquet’s car (then it was Grosjean’s) hit the wall in Piquet corner. AGAIN!!

  2. mini696 says:

    1. Who was the best driver in 2009? The worst?
Well of course it was Mark Webber, first win after serving a drive-through penalty. Second win (neither from pole) with a solid drive.

Other noteables were Hamilton, completely walked over his teamate and got the McLaren in to positions it didn’t deserve (not-withstanding KERS of course).

Kimi was back on track in spits and spurts.

Kobe impressed, but what did he have to lose?

Vettel made to many driver errors.

    Button got lucky.

    Chello, got served.

1a. Discounting Luca Badoer, who was the worst? :)
I wouldn’t have put Badoer as worst though. I would say Fisichella was up there for worst driver, after his horrible efforts in the Ferrari.

    2. Which was the best car? The worst?
    Best looking – Red Bull
    Most improved – McLaren
Suprise – Ferrari (how bad it was)
Worst – Torro Rosso or BMW… BMW would be my pick
    Luckiest – Brawn

    3. Which was the best team? The worst?
Best team(work) – Red Bull. Were able to give both drivers an equal car knowing their best shot at the WDC was to concentrate on one of them.

Team who gathered the stuff together best – McLaren

Worst team – Ferrari (how could a team with their cash supply not be able to improve?).

    4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer: Stupidest moment. Stupidest moment that didn’t involve Bernie. Favorite news. Most memorable moment.
Best moment – Singing the Australian national anthem
Stupid moment – The debacle that was Brazil qualifying
Favorite news – Mark Webber signed for 2010

  3. JD says:

    1. Best driver: Button – His only DNF was not his fault. Did he make any mistakes? Everyone else did. Fans are down on him but he won the most races and drove aggressively when needed.

Worst driver: Grosjean – He was suppose to be upgrade over Piquet but was arguably worse.

    2. Best car: Red Bull RB5- Won even without the double diffuser and scored a hat trick to end the season

Worst car: Renault R29 – Looked ugly, wasn’t fast, and performance never got better as the year went on.

    3. Best team: Red Bull – They overachieved beyond expectations. Compared to the factory team they were literally miles ahead. Without the double diffuser to start the season, they managed to keep both drivers well in the championship hunt.

Worst team: BMW Sauber – No other team fell so short of preseason expectations. They devoted time from contending last year to develop the ‘09 chassis. Yet they widely missed the mark.

    4. Stupidest moment: Bernie and Hitler

Stupidest moment that didn’t involve Bernie: Sutil snap turning his car right into Heidfeld at Singapore

    Favorite news: Alonso to Ferrari

Most memorable moment: Fisi and Kimi in lockstep lap after lap at Spa

  4. 1. Who was the best driver in 2009? The worst? Hamilton
1a. Discounting Luca Badoer, who was the worst? Grosjean/Aguersuari

    2. Which was the best car? Red Bull
2a. The worst? Renault or Force India…perhaps BMW

    3. Which was the best team? McLaren
    3a. The worst? Toro Rosso

    4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer: Stupidest moment=FIA election

  5. royce amatique says:

    1. Who was the best driver in 2009? The worst?
BEST: I’d love to give it to Vettel but he didn’t overtake anyone. I’m gonna say Kimi
WORST: Algusuri, because he mouthed of at Bourdais when Seb got fired, saying that he didn’t make the most of his opportunity; then he got in the car and promptly sucked.

    2. Which was the best car? The worst?
BEST: RB5 because it was cool without a DD and had different suspension
WORST: Torro Rosso because it was the same as the RB5 but it sucked.
BEST LOOKING: Williams, cool colours and nice shape.
WORST LOOKING: RB5, it was ugly and I don’t care what anyone says. Yes the back was all swoopy but it looked like an old banger when the shocks are gone. The front end looked all pointy and stuck up in the air like a snooty bitch, then they put a duck’s bill on it so it looked like it had a botox injection in the lips. Finally I hate that shark’s fin thing soooooo much I can’t tell you.

    3. Which was the best team? The worst?
BEST: Brawn, why not they won the CC.
    WORST: Torro Rosso, see above

    4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer: Stupidest moment. Stupidest moment that didn’t involve Bernie. Favorite news. Most memorable moment.
CLASSIC MOMENT: like Raymond says, Grosjean putting it in the wall at Sg at the same turn as PK. Kimi getting flash fried.

  6. Entropy says:

    1. Who was the best driver in 2009? Jenson Button
1a. Discounting Luca Badoer, who was the worst?
Kaz Nakajima, who wasn’t a rookie like Grosjean and Alguersuari, so what’s his excuse for not scoring a single point ???

    2. Which was the best car? Brawn’s, esp if they stopped the upgrades halfway through.
The worst? Renault, were lucky to be counting on Fernando in 2009.

    3. Which was the best team? McLaren, for not giving up.
The worst? Ferrari, for giving up and poor driver management.

    4. Stupidest moment.
Downpour in Malaysia at a time the race was held to ‘accomodate’ viewers.
Stupidest moment that didn’t involve Bernie.
The black out during the hungary qualis.
    Favorite news.
Announcement this week that Canada is officially back on.
    Most memorable moment.
    SPA

  7. Cracked (in Spain!) says:

    1. Who was the best driver in 2009? The worst? Jenson Button… He won the WDC. (I prefer Kimi because he was able to make a dog of a car incredibly fast.)
1a. Discounting Luca Badoer, who was the worst? Grosjean/Aguersuari

    2. Which was the best car? Brawn
2a. The worst? STR or Force India… BMW showed great improvement by the end of teh season.

    3. Which was the best team? Brawn (World Championship)
    3a. The worst? Toro Rosso

    4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer: Stupidest moment = FIA election
Most Memorable = Kimi at SPA

  8. FastCars says:

Best Driver : I suspect it may have been Kimi. Although he was in the midfield a lot, the car was clearly VERY hard to drive, as shown by Badoer and Fisi. Neither of these are “bad” drivers, but neither could drive the 2009 Ferrari. Somehow Kimi could, and should be judged not by comparison with the other teams’ drivers, but by comparison with the others who tried to drive the same car as him!
Worst Driver : Sorry Kazoo, it’s you. At least Grosjean and Algethingy can claim inexperience.
    Best Car : Red Bull.
Worst Car : McLaren by a mile at the start of the season, BMW pretty much throughout.
Best Team : McLaren for turning it around so much.
Worst Team : STR – showed good progress in 2008 but went backwards in 2009.
Stupidest moment : Scheduling Malaysia at a time of day when anyone with 0.5 a brain knows that it’ll almost certainly bucket down.
Stupidest moment that didn’t involve Bernie : Kimi nearly getting fried.
Favorite news : That Massa was out of danger and recovering OK.
Most memorable moment : Ross in tears – “It’s just special”. A great result for BBF1, a great pity for the guys who didn’t keep their jobs, but a credit to those who did.

  9. royce amatique says:

I absolutely concur with the Malaysia thing

  10. Nelson DB says:

    1. Who was the best driver in 2009? Button, he deserved the title, winning when it was possible and taking points when he couldn’t win anymore. He was always consistent.
1a. Discounting Luca Badoer, who was the worst?
Nakajima, but also Grosjean for his attitude

    2. Which was the best car? Brawn, a car adapted in a month to another engine and 1 sec faster than the others at his debut.the double diffuser was’nt the only reason for his success.

2a. The worst? Renault was an ugly dog..

    3. Which was the best team? Brawn did a miracle, and won both titles…
3a. The worst? Renault which failed with Alonso and BMW for killing himself with the kers..

    4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer:
best moment: Fisi resurrection in spa, and biggest disillusion: Fisi’s drive in ferrari and the false news about Shouey coming back..

  11. JC_122 says:

    1. Who was the best driver in 2009? The worst?
Best = Kimi because he pushed that pig of a Ferrari on the podium first and delivered its only win!
Worst = Alguesuari… attacked Bourdais and then failed to make any real impression

    2. Which was the best car? Red Bull (if only they’d thought of the double diffuser a little earlier)
2a. The worst? Toro Rosso (which was interesting because i thought it was the sister car of the Red Bull…)

    3. Which was the best team? Brawn (they got the championship)
    3a. The worst? Toro Rosso

    4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer:
Stupidest moment = Sutil spinning into Heidfeld
Most Memorable = Kimi on fire (quite literally)

    • JC_122 says:

on that note – how come Heikki didn’t get a drive-through for an unsafe release when last year Massa did? I mean Heikki set someone on fire!! =S Or did I just miss that moment…

  12. raithrover says:

    1. Who was the best driver in 2009? The worst?
for me Rubens was the best, came alive again and compared to the preparation other drivers had for the season (excluding Webber), a marvellous achievement.

The worst was Grosjean, the final insult from the Flav giving him a drive. Hopeless with no sign of improvement, clearly out of his depth.

    2. Which was the best car? The worst?
Over the course of the season its the Brawn, the points do not lie and seeing how the team switched most development to the 2010 car, a credit to the strong original design by Honda.

Worst? Over the course of the season BMW.

    3. Which was the best team? The worst?
Honda>Brawn>Mercedes was the best team by far. Fantastic achievement.

Worst was Renault, partially due to Singapore but also failing to give Fernando something to work with this season.

    4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer?
Trulli vs Sutil. Anything involving Sutil, he seems to attract trouble!

  13. Jim says:

. Who was the best driver in 2009? The worst?
The best driver has to be Vettel. without the DDD he battled hard for the title. The worst driver honrs have to goto the paper shredder

    2. Which was the best car? The worst?
The Red Bull car was the best simply because it was the most consistent. the worst has to be the Ferrari

    3. Which was the best team? The worst?
I’ll give best team honors to McLaren they fought hard to bring that pig of car back and make it competetive. worst team honors I would say is Williams they should have started the season with an advantage but did nothing with it and I am disappointed we neve never saw the Flying Ninja Wheel of Death

    4. Any bonus question you’d like to answer: Stupidest moment. Stupidest moment that didn’t involve Bernie. Favorite news. Most memorable moment.
Most memorable moment was Flavios lifetime ban. It just showed how Max used the power of the FIA to exact his own personal agenda. If your going to ban Flav you needed to ban the entire team.

  14. Noddy93 says:

jc_122 says ” Which was the best car? Red Bull (if only they’d thought of the double diffuser a little earlier)”

Red Bull was one of the teams reported to have approached the FIA pre-season about developing just such a system but was told not to.

So yes, just imagine the what if…

  15. Noddy93 says:

    1a. best driver – Vettel
    1b. worst driver – Trulli
2a. best car – Red Bull
    2b. worst car – BMW
    3a. best team – McLaren
3b. worst team – Toro Rosso
    4. bonus: favorite moment – tie
    a. PK Corner Part Deux (& Bob Bell’s grin)
    b. Button’s jog on track

  16. 4kBeast says:

    1. Best: Hamilton – he learned some of the hardest lessons, came from a crap car, and learned how to turn his season around.
Worst: Overall, I’d say Naka, he just didn’t bring his A game. Or B. More of a D or F.
    2. Best car? Initially Brawn, eventually McLaren.
Worst? Initially McLaren or Ferrari, eventually Ferrari.
    3. Best team: BrawnGP by the points, McLaren by the development/effort.
The worst: Ferrari by the results and effort. Really disappointing.
    4. Stupidest moment: Toyota not taking advantage of their dual diffuser, not letting Kobe run in Suzuka, then quitting after one of their best seasons ever. Worst moments of the season, period.
Favorite news: Brawn was so good they stopped developing the car mid-season – and Ferrari was just kind of waiting for this year to be over.
Most memorable moment: Kobe beef putting the moves on Button. Greatest moment of the season. For a single moment, I got to pretend a Toyota could actually pull a move like that off with Brawn looking super racy.
