Former Toyota F1 driver Mika Salo is set to join Juan Pablo Montoya in the ranks of Nascar after a successful test this week, Autosport is reporting.
“Two things were new to me: driving a big NASCAR and driving on an oval,” the 42-year-old Finn told AUTOSPORT. “It felt comfortable in the car from the beginning and I could feel the changes we made to the car.
“It’s all about the money. If my sponsors are happy, it will happen. The plan is to learn the racing and learn the tracks in Nationwide and then move up to the Sprint Cup in 2011.”
Salo joined Jarno Trulli at the test; no word yet on whether he’ll be joined full-time by Trulli, who remains the rumored No. 1 driver for Lotus.
At least Salo didn’t marvel at how fast the car went. Perhaps he would have if he’d been behind the wheels of a truck.

IF, his sponsors are happy, sounds like a big IF to me.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
