Felipe Massa’s return to competitive racing at his Brazilian karting event seems to have a success.
The Brazilian — injured last season — won one of the legs (besting Michael Schumacher by less than a second) and finished third overall.
Schumacher, of course, won the overall event.
There are short press reports all over, but Autosport seems to have the most details:
Felipe Massa took a popular victory in the second leg of his charity karting event the International Challenge of Go-Kart Champions at Florianopolis in Brazil today.
The Brazilian beat his former Ferrari team-mate Michael Schumacher to victory by just 0.087 seconds – the pair having fought through the field as their third and first places in yesterday’s opening heat had left them starting down the order on the partially reversed grid.
Schumacher’s combination of a win and a second place made him the outright champion of the annual event, ahead of Massa, who was having his first competitive race since his Hungaroring accident in July.
Rubens Barrichello had led the early laps of today’s heat and eventually finished fourth behind IndyCar driver Vitor Meira.
I suppose the importance of this is: Does this bode well for Massa’s return. Do you think his performance here translates into promise for a full Formula 1 return?
I assume if he’d been back of the pack, the nay-sayers would be a loud bunch right now.

I didn’t see the races, so who knows, but this is Massa’s event. Its not completely unrealistic to think there might be some charity involved in his results. (…and yes that was a pun)
It’s so indicative. How? We all know F1 and karting virtually identical! :p
although I’ve not seen this years’ event yet I have seen the past three years and I can tell you that it is very doubtful that Massa’s win was any kind of charity.
