Reports: British GP to be saved

silverstone-588Multiple news reports say that the British GP will be saved, and we should get all the details in a few hours.

Silverstone officials have called a news conference for Monday. Damon Hill will be among those talking to the press.

Among the reports are this from the BBC, which obviously stands to gain from a British GP staying on the calendar. More interest among British fans = more viewers for the BBC, more listeners of its radio shows and podcasts and more clicks on its website.

I mention that just to suggest that the BBC probably will give the press conference a lot of coverage and will probably have a full round-up of opinion and analysis. Not trying to suggest BBC is biased in any way that would affects its coverage.

The news about the British GP, for those who may have noticed, is about all that’s playing out in the F1 world this weekend.

Was there an over/under on when Silly Season would turn into Slow Season?

We do have Renault still looming, along with plenty of driver seats open.

But I think Kimi Raikkonen’s move to WRC may have been the turning point for the year. Although if Robert Kubica ends up a free agent again… nah, what am I thinking. He’s no Kimi.
