Alonso: ‘I’m at my best’

Alonso 588Multiple media are re-quoting some fairly strong comments Fernando Alonso has made about how he feels he’s at his best as he sets out to win titles with Ferrari and for Spain.

But the best source, and the one I’m provide you, is The Sun.

Why? Check out the headline when you got to look at the story.

Here are the key quotes from Ferrari’s newest driver:

He said: “I’m really looking forward to the start of next year. I’m joining the best team in the world, Ferrari, and I’m arriving at the best moment of my career.

“Right now I feel like I’ve never felt before. I think I’m at my best moment as a driver and as a person.”

Speaking at an event in his homeland, he added: “I hope that joining Ferrari means winning titles to share with Spain.”

The Sun story also describes the “massive vote of confidence” Alonso just received from Luca di Montezemolo. That show of confidence, it is striking me, may just have something to do with a certain German.

Is it just me, or has Ferrari all of a sudden come out with a full PR assault, admitting that the 2009 car was pretty terrible but setting the stage for a significant comeback in 2010, largely thanks to Alonso?

Do you think Maranello is trying to build itself up, for fans, for sponsors and for its own crew, before Michael Schumacher announces he’s back — with Mercedes?

Could be. It also, admittedly, could be that Ferrari is extremely pleased to have Alonso on board. And why not? He’s a great talent.

It’s just he still has five titles to win before he’s as “great” as the guy Ferrari seems about to lose.

Ferrari are just callin’ it as they see it… like I said previously, it will take Ferrari up to four races to get everything synched… but then it’ll be death for the rest of the teams and in three years they’ll change the points system again.

    • Monad says:

That points system was never against Ferrari at all. And let’s not full ourselves, when Todt and Shumi where there, they were making the rules along with the FIA. They even admitted it this year. If the other teams had all the special privileges Ferrari had then they would have been the ones getting it right.

You know Schumacher has nothing to worry about, all this Ferrari statements have nothing to do with him anymore. He is gonna go to Mercedes and the rest would be settle on track.
But now if i was Massa i would be really worry. It seems like they are deciding more and more that Alonso will have his special number1 and privilege treatment status that he so wanted at Mclaren and never got. I think Massa should call Luka and ask him what is this shit about building a team around Alonso? Massa seems to already be number 2 driver with out them even putting a wheel on the track.
On the other hand if the car sucks, Schumi will be laughing his ass of.
