USF1 give Christmas gift to the world

USF1, or is that USGPE, has launched its much anticipated website on Christmas day.

Peter Windsor

That’s terrific news and surely a sign that the team have now got things completely in place for the first race in 2010…right? AS it is, it is a basic site with straight forward appeal and no frills. Perhaps something that will become the overall notion of the team itself in months to come.

Be that as it may, I ma happy they finally have a site up that they can utilize to keep their fans and the world media apprised of their progress…even though the site looks to be fashioned from chapter 8 of the “totally unoriginal guide to website design” book.

I am surprised at what I percieve to be a really negative attitude towards this team. The web site might be basic, but does it need to be anything else? The team might not be Ferrari, but does it need to be? I remember when Lotus was Lotus and they were financially challenged 24*7, they found innovative ways to overcome problems whereas the big teams just spend money to resolve the issue.

I’m not a huge F1 fan, but love following your podcasts and views of the F1 scene, but the time for negative comment will be when USF1 fail to show for the first GP. Until that time I think they need to be cut some serious slack.

On the surface, their site kinda reminds me of this one….but theirs is clean and basic and this one is cluttered with as much code as can be shoved into the space. Carbon fibre background. Logo at the top. Main white box in the center with words. Links below the logo….yep carbon fibre copy of this one…..except less crap on theirs.
They’re up to over 9000 views on the YT channel…thats about 8000 more than this site gets I’d imagine.
I see a “Donate” button on the right side. With this sort of drivel….why would I donate?

  2. oh!

They’re not gonna win any awards for their website design. Hopefully the car will make up for this slightest of oversights.

Could be worse, though. At least there’s no blinking text or overly complicated CSS. It’s a clean design, hopefully just like the car.

    • It’s a joke folks. The site is fine. I’m just happy they have it up now so they can keep it flush with their progress and we will have a place to go for official news instead of reading stories of leaked photos and allegations around the web. I think the lack of an official space for news etc was part of the problem.

Peter used the media as a place for getting news out and that sometimes get confusing. Now they have one place to release all the information they want without it seeming like people are peeking behind the curtain with every news story. Good on them, I say.

It’s a nice start; I wish them the best and hopefully they can spill some of the success on Mr.E’s face. I am not looking forward to a great start, just a upward, slow, steady improvement over time. America has the ingenuity and the resources to make things to happen in F1. Despite I did not like the way Mr. Windsor acted as the voice of the FIA interviews and race coverage, I think he deserves an accolade for moving ahead one idea, and for trying to make things a little bit different in the unreasonable-expensive world of F1.
The best of Luck for them!

The American start-up team USF1 appears to have caused gastritis for some. I’ve been reading the comments regarding USF1 on this and other sites – there is a history my friends.

Long ago and far, far way, I recall waving to and getting a nod back from Dan Gurney at the 1967 German Grand Prix. He was making some final adjustments to his Anglo-American Racers conceived Eagle-Weslake T1G car. Gurney raced just one season though left a big impression on many in and, indeed, the sport. I don’t think Gurney got as large a load of crap, mainly people in the fan base, as he started up his American Grand Prix team.

So, let’s take a deep gulp of air and review all the wondrous things that have come out of this former Spanish playground and British taxation pit, including, in 2010, a new Formula One team:

Do you have “lights” in your home — the Edison light-bulb
Enjoy “travelling by air” — Wright Brothers powered flight
“Laser” scanned music and DVD’s — Hughes Research Laboratory Laser technology (Edison again with recorded music)
Do you enjoy the “internet” – ARPAnet, today’s Internet
Did you have an “MRI” recently — American Scientist Raymond Damadian
Are there any “transistors” in all your electronics — developed by a three-man American scientific team
Been driving that “assembly line” built car — American automobile builder Henry Ford

We created innovation and USF1 will as well! See you at the races…

To be honest with you, it looks very similar to site designs available in Microsoft Sharepoint services. Wonder if that is the underlying content management system they are using.
