Because Kubica’s other choice is what?

A janitor at the Ferrari factory? Ron Dennis’s personal assistant? I get that it is important for a manger to look out for the best interest of his driver, but seriously what were his other option if he left Renault? Not much.

But that did stop Kubica’s manager Daniele Morelli from first stating that they were reconsidering the contract with the news of the Genii Capital buy out, but now they’re coming out and saying that after some thought we’re most likely going to stay. Ah of course you are.

Morelli:

We need some time – at least a few days – to evaluate the new situation so I am not in a position to say we will leave or stay. We are going in the right direction. There were no doubts, really, but it was very important we understood who were in the key roles in the team and of course also the budget – it is fundamental you have that for the updates to the car.

He then said that there is no way Kubica was just looking for more money. You’re right, that is totally a crazy thought… A manager looking for more money for his driver. Again, I’m pretty sure that’s what he’s paying you for, but maybe that’s just me.

Morelli:

It is totally untrue that we were asking for more money. It is not in our interests to take advantage. We want the money for the team. Robert wants a performing car. It’s useless if the driver gets more money if you have a weak car and lose [performance] bonuses. It’s better to score points and make podiums than to earn more money.
