Force India to attempt internet launch, too

In unsurprising and funny news of the day, Force India announced via the official Formula1 website that they would be launching their 2010 car online February 9, the day “before the car makes its official testing debut at Spain’s Jerez circuit” on February 10 for the next winter test session.  While this was not mentioned at the team’s official site, one could likely presume that the sport’s actual site will not get the date too wrong.

What makes this such an amusing tidbit of information is the recent troubles to be had by the teams launching their car online.  Ferrari’s streaming video had some issues with crashing, just as Fernando Alonso came on to speak.  The  launch of the entire IndyCar series crashed after too many fans decided to watch.  However, the largest problem occurred Wednesday when the Virgin Racing all-virtual car destroyed its all-virtual launch (as discussed at F1B by SJ Skid) and only a single picture of the car eventually made its way to the team’s website.

Force India certainly has high hopes, with its projected online launch.  Perhaps now that the bar has been set quite low, the team will rise through the ranks to have the best virtual launch ever?  Or, they could do the smart thing and just “launch” the car from the pit lane at Jerez like Toro Rosso and Renault did.  Just don’t forget, add another car to the known line-up on February 9.

Mclarens launch went off really well. I was worried it was going to go wrong, but it was fine. I’m not surprised about the others though. They will never do this for corporate and image reasons, but what they need to do is make an account with about 4+ popular Live streaming sites eg, justin.tv , ustream, livestream etc, and simultaneously stream the launch. These sites are used to large traffic and can handle it. It will spread out the demand and if one goes down then there are always the others.

They won’t do this though because it’s too easy..and possibly not good for their image to be on a site with a load of teenage girls and people with weird online radio shows. ….So lets hope the hosting company they chose has guessed the right number of viewers there will be and done their sums right.
