Longtime IndyCar journeyman Oriol Servia has been tapped to drive the second car for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. Plan plan for Servia is to race in 4 races: Long Beach, Barber, the Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis 500 with future races in mind as the team sorts out sponsorship deals.
This will mark the second time he has not only worked with RLL Racing, but the second time he has worked with Graham Rahal as well. Servia drove for RLL racing at the 2009 Indianapolis 500 and was a teammate to Graham Rahal at the end of the 2009 season at Newman/Hass/Langian Racing.
“We have had the pleasure of working with Oriol before and are looking forward to his return,” said Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. “I have always respected his ability to develop the race car and be a productive member of the team so when it came time to consider the possibility of a second entry he was right at the top of the list. We are happy to have him back and look forward to having him help the team progress toward the front.”
Servia will also be reunited with engineer John Dick, who was his race engineer at PPI Racing when Servia was a rookie in CART in the year 2000. He feels that the commonalities within the team is a plus and will help the team in moving forward.
“There are enough synergies within the team that make me feel positive that even if we may be starting a little late, we will hit the road running,” he said.
