Bombshell: No, teams can’t miss any races, says FIA

While everyone in the Formula1 community was watching and analyzing times from a rainy Jerez, the FIA released a statement saying, essentially, that both Bernie Ecclestone and FIA president Jean Todt were wrong.  No team can miss a single race.  For clarity, here is the entire statement, short as it is:

According to, well, nearly every Formula1 news source, FIA president Jean Todt confirmed what Bernie Ecclestone has been going on about for the past couple of days: the 2010 Concorde Agreement allows for any team to miss up to three (consecutive or non-consecutive) races during the season without being kicked out of the championship altogether.  [...]

Comments by Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo are making the rounds in which he explains the decision essentially to pursue Fernando Alonso a year ahead of schedule.

The reason? Nothing to do with Santander, everything to do with getting a driver who could work with the engineers to develop the car.
