Oh my, how times have changed. As with the past three seasons, the kick off to the 2014 Formula One season also marks the beginning of the 2014 F1B Staff Championship. Which of the two is more important? Well, that’s debatable. If you’re Grace and you are attempting to defend the most remarkable title comeback in the entire history of life, the universe and everything, then it may be obvious where your affections lie.

Back to those changing times, however, and much like the real thing happening in Oz, if any of us score any points at all from this weekend’s Australian GP, it may just be a stroke of luck. Understandable following pre-season testing, gone seems to be the love for Red Bull, with Vettel getting just one pick for the win and Ricciardo also only getting a single mention. Meanwhile, the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Rosberg have picked up the slack by taking five nods each for the top step of the podium.

First Out? Well, that’s still situation normal with Pastor Maldonado getting the majority of the picks. New boy Marcus Ericcson gets two picks to exit first, as does the multiple time reigning champion. Plus Raikkonen, Massa and Pastor’s teammate and fellow whipping boy RoGro each get one pick for First Out, as well.
And with that, we kick off the latest chapter in the F1B Staff Picks championship. In doing so, we also welcome ‘rookies’ Jake, Tom, JP and Mark to the mix and wish them better luck than the fine folks at Caterham and Marussia! Here’s to another year.

I’m surprised just how many staffers there are now. This site has just exploded!

Based on experience over the seasons I find Grace’s picks the most insightful and logical.

I don’t know, I think Vettel was looking Very good. Except for the melting body work in FP1 he was 4th fastest in FP2. Vettel is single minded …has he even talked about his kid? Did you know he had a kid? When I became a dad I could not shut up about my little baby (My second kid got shafted)

      1. Rosberg – becasue he didn’t break. The Merc is Fast when it runs
      2. Alonso – ‘Cause I always pick Alonso but i think he will be on fuel saving last 6 laps
      3. Vettel – because of inspired pit strategy, sold weather and unblinking determination
      4. Raikkonen – why not he will be coming from 15th becasue of a botched qualifying.
      5. Bottas – Williams is due
      6. Hamilton – After leading a third of the race some stupid tire thing will push him back

FO. Ricciardo – becasue Vettel will get all the non melting bodywork first

        Oops Seb’s gal is expecting.
