It remains to be seen what will become of the private test between Mercedes and Pirelli but one thing the Italian tire maker does know is that there will be no tire changes as planned for the British Grand Prix. The Pirelli team brought a new construction tire to test in Canada but after a brief testing period, the teams could not unanimously agree to acceptance of the new tire. Pirelli said:

“The tyre construction will remain unchanged, contrary to Pirelli’s initial plans,” Pirellis said in a statement.

“This decision is due to the fact that the new tyres, which were brought to the Friday free practice sessions in Canada, could not be tested sufficiently due to rain – and that the teams failed to agree unanimously about introducing the changes.

“Instead a change in the tyre production process should now ensure that the delamination issue has been addressed.”

The delaminating tire issue was isolated and not a safety concern, according to Pirelli, and a new adhesive should remedy the issue. With that decision made, the company will be bringing the following compounds to each race:

Great Britain – Medium, Hard
Germany – Soft, Medium
Hungary – Medium, Hard

What do you suppose the chances are that the rain was a convenient excuse to alter their plans due to the pressure of the impending tribunal?

  • Warthog

Convenient, perhaps, but it was the teams themselves that decided they didn’t want to change the tires due to the rain.

  • I don’t believe it gonna change a lot. The tyres are the same for all teams
