Alex Tagliani will take the role of super-sub next weekend for the injured Dario Franchitti at Auto Club Speedway as he will assume the driver role for the #10 Target car.

“As a driver you never want an opportunity like this to come under these circumstances, but I’m up for the challenge and looking forward to working with my friend Scott and the whole Target team. I’m thinking of Dario as everyone else is, and wishing him a quick recovery. This team has a championship on the line and I’m ready to step in and help them win it.” -Alex Tagliani

Tagliani lost his ride with Bryan Herta Autosport after the Toronto Doubleheader this season and finished out the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series season driving the #61 Ferrari GT car with Jeff Segal, where he scored a pole in his first run out at Kansas Speedway.

On a hot night of changing track conditions in last season’s MavTV 500 season finale, Tagliani started in 16th and quickly climbed his way into the top ten and in the waning stages of the race was fighting with Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti and Ed Carpenter for the race win until his Honda powerplant expired with just a handful of laps to go.

With Auto Club Speedway being a track where car control comes into play and drivers have to fight the car as a run wears on, Tagliani’s experience at Auto Club Speedway made him an easy pick to sub for Franchitti. Tagliani has a pole at Auto Club Speedway in 2001 driving for Players Forsythe Racing, where he finished in 3rd, his best finish at the 2.0 mile oval.

Obviously the situation is not ideal with Dario being unable to compete in Fontana.  As we look to the season finale we needed a driver with experience and the ability to step in and get the job done in the No. 10 car, and Alex was a logical choice for us. – Chip Ganassi
