The rain gods love IndyCar racing! In spite of forecasts of rain for both the Indianapolis 500 and Race to at Detroit’s Belle Isle, the fans and racers enjoyed ideal race conditions. Belle Isle is the only double-header on the IndyCar schedule and comes with it’s own special qualifying format. We review the qualifying drama and the brilliant career-best performance put in by Graham Rahal. Next up is the high-banks of the Texas Motor Speedway. It’s always an exciting race and a tense challenge for the drivers. Too much of a challenge for a rookie driver, in the eyes of IndyCar. No racing for you, Gutierrez!

Texas Motor Speedway Preview

  • No oval racing for you! Gutierrez out, Vautier in.
  • Can Andretti Autosport repeat their Indianapolis dominance?

  • I biasedly and absolutely agree with Hinch on driver of the race for race one. I don’t think anyone expected him to make up that time, even with being off-strategy.

    Being at a race and seeing a car hit the barrier is intense because you see how much they move.

    Do you like this qualifying format? It’s there to save time and further differentiate the weekend. To rid us of the “unfairness” of changing track condition, why not have regular without fast six segment?

    Never thought an additional stop would work.

    I wanted Sato to win again but he clearly didn’t have the pace. And Rahal going all out on PTP on his in lap was nuts. The gape he pulled in those two-ish miles was enormous. And now you’re talking about the lap. Haha.

    Pigot has had some bad luck this year. Red flag shouldn’t have happened but the race was already running really short. They should’ve just ended it as is. Didn’t someone crash on the last lap as well?

    Sometimes I want to turn off the race when they’re running additional laps under yellow because they’re cleaning the track of marbles. Doing a red is just the same thing.

    I’m so hyped for TMS, but maybe I’m still reeling from ’16. Will it actually the like the Texas 525 or something as they decreased the radius of 1 and 2?

    I picked ECR in my top four.
